Extending Policy Control with NSX SD-WAN by VeloCloud

Denise Donohue shared her look at the policy control features of VMware’s NSX SD-WAN by VeloCloud. This allows admins to synchronize policy enforcement points with a single coordinated platform.

VMWare’s Virtual Cloud Network: Managing networks like magic

Sonia Cuff shares how VMware’s Virtual Cloud Network can help solve the challenges of a modern distributed workforce. This uses NSX SD-WAN to securely connect and monitor a network, while keeping management simple. For Sonia, invoking Arthur C Clarke, this approaches networking magic.

VMware’s Virtual Cloud Network Fulfills the SDN Promise

At Networking Field Day Exclusive with VMware, Jordan Martin saw how the company’s Virtual Cloud Network integrates different domains into a coherent orchestration and policy engine. For him, it delivers on the initial promises made by software-defined networking.

VMware’s Virtual Cloud Network: Riding the Wave of Digital Transformation

Eyvonne Sharp takes a look at Virtual Cloud Network, which she saw at length during Networking Field Day Exclusive with VMware last week. For her, this represents the first glimpse into how the company will integrate their VeloCloud acquisition into their already robust software stack.

Some Things I Learned About VeloCloud SD-WAN

Greg Farrow was surprised by what he learned about SD-WAN from VeloCloud’s presentation at Networking Field Day. The surprises included features that look an awful lot like intent-based networking, as well as PCI DSS compliant. It clearly was an eye opening presentation.

How to fit an Elephant into a small car to transport it over the Networkautobahn

Load balancing across multiple WAN uplinks is a fairly common SD-WAN capability. At Networking Field Day last month, Dominik Pickhardt heard from VMware’s VeloCloud about something more challenging. They demonstrated how they can handle so-called “elephant flows”, which is when you have one large session that can’t be easily distributed.

To SD-WAN or Not to SD-WAN — and How?

Pete Welcher has been seeing a lot of competing SD-WAN solutions, including a lot from presentations at past Networking Field Day events. He runs down how to determine if these solutions are ideal for your operations. First, if you’re heavily investing in a lot of Cisco routers, just use IWAN. But for organizations with equipment coming to end of life or need ease of deployment without much more needed than routing and QoS, SD-WAN is worth a look. Make sure to read Pete’s piece for all the details.

SD-WAN from VeloCloud

Peter Welcher reviews what he saw from VeloCloud at Networking Field Day in November. He came away impressed with the company. In a space that’s increasingly crowded by players with a legacy in WAN optimization, VeloCloud distinguishes itself. Peter was particularly impressed by their support for service chaining and partnerships with virtualized firewall vendors. Overall, Peter sees what VeloCloud is doing as proof that SD-WAN has carved out a definite use case in the enterprise.

Sorting Through SD-WAN

The SD-WAN landscape can be a little tough to navigate. While the basic idea is easy enough to understand, every company out there seems to have their own implementation and market focus. Tom Hollingsworth thinks the moment of SD-WAN maturity is finally upon us. If anything, Tom thinks there might not be any more room for differentiation for new companies. Overall though, the space is really exciting, as it can only get easier to deploy and extend. 2017 may indeed be the year of SD-WAN!

Coming to SD-WAN: The Build vs. Buy Decision

Presenting at Networking Field Day earlier this month, VeloCloud is offering a rather unique solution for SD-WAN. Instead of presenting themselves as a solution that an enterprise would build and deploy internally, VeloCloud takes a different approach. They’ve partnered with a number of Tier 1 and 2 Service Providers, integrating their service within their offerings, instead of using their offering as leverage for lower rates for customers.

Bob McCouch has an writeup about the pros and cons of this approach, as well as some thoughts on some of VeloCloud’s particular innovations. It’s a really thoughtful look at the tradeoffs implicit in this setup.

Networking Field Day 13 – Sneak Preview

Tony Mattke wrote a nice preview of Networking Field Day, held just last week in Silicon Valley. He runs through all of the presenting companies, and tells us what he was looking forward to seeing. Give it a read to whet your appetite, then check out all of the video coverage here!

Looking forward to Networking Field Day

Scott McDermott is coming back for Networking Field Day and gives an overview of all the companies presenting at this event. Most exciting is a recent update to his post, Forward Networks just came out of Stealth Mode on November 14th, and they’ll be giving a highly anticipated presentation on the November 17th! Check out Scott’s post for what he’s looking for out of each of the presenting companies, and make sure you check back on the 17th and 18th for all the live stream action!

SD-WAN with VeloCloud at Networking Field Day 13

Phil Gervasi is excited for some “SD-WAN goodness” at Networking Field Day next week! He’s particularly anticipating VeloCloud’s presentation, a well known presence in the space. He wants to see what differentiates VeloCloud in their solution to provide private reliability, performance and security for applications running over the public internet.

He’s also looking forward to details about how their cloud network of distributed gateways works. It’s an exciting time in the SD-WAN space, its something that can be deployed and make a difference in the enterprise today. Check back for more details and coverage about VeloCloud during and after the event!
