Tamir Segal, Director of Product Marketing, gives a brief overview of Dell EMC’s ScaleIO software-defined storage solution. This was acquired by EMC in 2013, and has expanded to over 400 customers, and 450PB deployed. He reviews the operational advantages of ScaleIO’s approach, and how flexible it is in terms of deployment, from pure software to a HCI VxRack System FLEX.

Erez Webman, CTO at Dell EMC ScaleIO, gives the delegates a review of ScaleIO’s architectural fundamentals. This design is highly scalable, supporting well into thousands of nodes. Erez shows how ScaleIO gains performance with each added node, and goes into detail on it’s designed residency, with fault sets and distributed mirroring.

Joel Sprouse, Senior Systems Engineer with Dell EMC ScaleIO, gives a demonstration of ScaleIO to the delegates. This demonstrates both their SDS drive management component, but also SDC, their application management, and metadata manager component. He walks the delegates through their UI, and shows how policy and provisioning are handled in the system.

Dan Aharoni, Senior Director of Engineer with Dell EMC ScaleIO, reviews some of the performance of their SDS and SDC components, which handle drive and application performance with storage, respectively. This includes two different profiles, which includes default and performance modes. This allows for configuration of performance requirements, based on utilization of additional RAM and CPU resources.
