Rahul Padigela, Technical Lead for Data Management at Scality, demonstrates the features of Scality RING, including cross-region data replication. This is built on their Backbeat architecture, which provides replication while still sticking to Amazon’s specifications. This allows for customers to leverage existing APIs and SDKs and not require learning something fundamentally new. Backbeat runs as a container with the Kafka queue manager to provide asynchronous replication across sites.

Giorgio Regni, CTO and Co-Founder of Scality, discusses managing data across multiple cloud services with a single API and central control. The session provides the rationale, product background, customer use cases, and key features of Zenko from Scality. The overall vision of Zenko is to provide control and freedom in an increasingly multi-cloud world. This is done via a S3-compatible API that can be used across clouds, keeps data in cloud native formats, with robust metadata search.

Scality software engineer Rached Ben Mustapha demonstrates Zenko installation and configuration. This leverages Docker Swarm for simplicity, with plans to soon deploy on Mesos and Kubernetes. The demo also includes a look at the Zenko web UI, which can be used to look at capacity, performance, and management.

Lauren Spiegel, Technical Lead S3, and Giorgio Regni, CTO and Co-Founder, present the extended capabilities of Scality Zenko. They use a Shakespearean metaphor to look at the robust search features brought to Zenko, which allows for fast metadata powered searches of S3 buckets. This supports multi and hybrid cloud searches via a single RESTful API call.
