Cloud Field Day 6 Prep – NetApp and Dell Technologies
Ned Bellavance is getting ready to attend Cloud Field Day later this month, and doing his homework on the presenting companies. In this post, he’s digging into what to expect from NetApp and Dell Technologies. Both are long established stalwarts in enterprise IT, and both are making interesting choices in how they build out their cloud native offerings. NetApp had an impressive presentation at Cloud Field Day last year, and he’s looking forward to how they will build off a year of impressive announcements. Bitfusion at VMworld 2019 With TFDx
ML and AI workloads are only going to grow more in the enterprise in the coming years. At VMworld 2019, VMware showed how they are going to help meet the infrastructure needs of this shift. Using assets aquired from Bitfusion, VMware is able to virtualize GPUs, effectively doing for ML workloads what VSAN did for storage. They spent the bulk of their time talking about their recently announced integration with Catalyst 9300 series switches. Apstra’s Intent – What Do They Mean?
Dan Frith heard from Apstra for the first time at Tech Field Day Extra at VMworld 2019. Their intent-based networking and overall infrastructure vision with their Apstra Operating System was a bit out of Dan’s typical fare, which is more typically grounded in storage. After hearing their presentation, Dan was definitely impressed by their solutions, and can see why the company get’s a lot of buzz.

Forti-Much to Appreciate at Mobility Field Day 4
It’s always great to haver Lee Badman join us for Mobility Field Day. This summer, he got to hear from Fortinet at the event. As the title of his post indicates, there was lots of interest to hear during their presentation. They showed off new Wi-Fi 6 ready access point, new security features, as well as new tools for wireless professionals. Al Rasheed got to hear from Cohesity at Cloud Field Day earlier this year. The company is no stranger to the Field Day experience, so it’s always interesting to see what they present. In this post, Al looks at how Cohesity allows organizations to easily add protection for diverse sources, from on-prem to SaaS apps like Office365, to their platform. They showed how to get started, set policy, and actually implement backup. It’s a remarkable capability to have from the secondary storage stalwart.

Project Pacific at Tech Field Day Extra at VMworld 2019
Kit Colbert with VMware shared a blog post about the company’s perspective presenting at Tech Field Day Extra at VMworld US 2019. They did a deep dive on Project Specific, the company’s rearchitecture of vSphere to integrate Kubernetes.
