Jasper finds it similar in intent to looking at Netflow data, getting network telemetry without keeping full packet captures. But he highlights how Tetration is designed to do this for modern network architectures.

Mellanox, Ixia and Cumulus: Part 1
John Herbert enjoyed hearing from Mellanox at Networking Field Day earlier this year. They were one of the “behind the scenes” companies that are pervasive, but often unnoticed. They made a case for their Spectrum / Spectrum 2 ASICs for white box vendors, noting considerable performance benefits over competitors.

Cloud Field Day Interview: Nick Janetakis
In this CTO Dose, Keith Townsend interviews first time delegate Nick Janetakis about his experience at Cloud Field Day. The company that really stood out to Nick was Droplet Computing, which came out of stealth at the event. As a developer and educator, he found their methodology of running containerized apps in a browser intriguing.

Cloud Field Day 3; Day 3 – That One Thing….
Chris Porter finishes up his rundown of each day of last week’s Cloud Field Day in this post. That Friday saw two companies present, Druva and Veritas. Chris was intrigued by the possibilities Druva’s cloud-native data management as a service provided, particularly with running VMware workloads on VMC, effectively keeping all your infrastructure inside of AWS. Veritas’ CloudPoint stood out to Chris because of its unique support for native snapshots on EC2, Azure, and GCP instances.

Cloud Field Day 3; Day 1 – That One Thing…
With Cloud Field Day over delegate Chris Porter takes a look back at day one of the event. This saw presentations from Morpheus Data, Delphix, and Oracle. Morpheus shows how they create an abstration layer for cloud services while still retaining unique features to particular services. Delphix showed how they can speed up the cycle of getting database backups to test/dev systems. Finally, Oracle gave a deep dive into their Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

Convergence Without Compromise
Josh De Jong takes a look at an interesting approach to hyperconverged infrastructure from Datrium with DVX. Their approach separates compute nodes from storage. Each compute node has a SSD used for cachining, which results in increased performance when adding nodes. Josh looks of Datrium is now developing how to move their HCI stack to the cloud.

NetApp’s Justin Parisi was able to be at their Cloud Field Day presentation this week, and shared his live blog from the event. It’s a really interesting perspective on the presentation, which focused on NetApp’s Cloud story, including ONTAP Cloud and Cloud Volumes. Little’s Law: For Estimation Only
Dr. Rachel Traylor heard Datrium reference Little’s Law during their presentation at Storage Field Day last month. Little’s Law provides a way to smooth out some of the random variables in queuing theory into something more deterministic. As Dr. Traylor explains, this makes it idea for quick estimations, but it’s not a silver bullet for such a complex field of mathematics.

Droplet Computing Unveils at Cloud Field Day
It’s always a thrill to see a company come out of stealth at a Field Day event. At Cloud Field Day this week, Droplet Computing made their public debut. They demonstrated a new approach to delivering legacy production applications, using their Universal Container technology to run apps in a browser without traditional OS or hardware dependencies.

Jane Rimmer is happy to see Droplet Computing come out of stealth at Cloud Field Day this week. The company uses a unique container solution that allows for legacy and production applications to be run directly in a web browser. Greg Farrow was surprised by what he learned about SD-WAN from VeloCloud’s presentation at Networking Field Day. The surprises included features that look an awful lot like intent-based networking, as well as PCI DSS compliant. It clearly was an eye opening presentation.

Redfish support for DellEMC PowerEdge
Andrea Mauro got to hear from Dell EMC’s automation and configuration team at Tech Field Day earlier this year. They outlined their new iDRAC9 version, but also support for iDRAC9 version on the newest generation of PowerEdge servers. Andrea thinks for organizations in a heterogenous vendor environment this support is vital for implementing automation.
