Intel Optane – Challenges and Triumphs

At Storage Field Day earlier this year, Intel focused on their intel Optane memory solution and some of the successes and challenges they’ve had in implementing it. This isn’t the first time that delegate Dan Frith has seen Intel present on Optane, and he was refreshed with how direct they were about both the ups and downs of the product. Writing on his blog, Dan says that he enjoyed the presentation tremendously and the customer examples were powerful examples at what intel can do. If you haven’t yet, be sure to watch Intel’s presentations from Storage Field Day to get an idea of where Intel’s Optane has been and where it is going.

Hammerspace, Storageless Data, and One Tough Problem

Storageless data? Is that even possible? Heading into their Storage Field Day presentation, delegate Dan Frith had some questions. After seeing their presentation, Dan was intrigued enough to have a followup session with the team from Hammerspace to get the full rundown on their offering. On his blog PenguinPunk.net, Dan writes that “at a high level, Hammerspace is a great choice for getting data into multiple locations, regardless of the underlying platform.” Check out Hammerspace’s unique solution to Storage through Dan’s recap or their Storage Field Day videos!

Back to the Future With Tintri

Storage Field Day delegate Dan Frith had the chance to see Tintri present at the event last month. On his blog, Dan looks back through Tintri’s transition throughout the years and notes that not too much has changed when it comes to the core benefits of their products like VMstore. He writes that this consistency has been a solid foundation for Tintri to build on and that the features that they offer have aged well over the years. He also appreciates Tintri’s attempt to decrease the work involved in infrastructure and free up customers to focus on other things. Check out Tintri’s presentations from Storage Field Day to see what they’re up to now!

Storage Options for the Distributed Enterprise

Writing for GigaOm, delegate Enrico Signoretti discusses different approaches to defying data gravity. Enrico references solutions from Nasuni and Hammerspace, both of which presented last month at Storage Field Day. You can find all the presentations from Storage Field Day on the Tech Field Day website!

Presenters React to the Storage Field Day 21 Experience

Storage Field Day was our first event of 2021, and we think it went swimmingly! After the presentations, we spoke to each of the presenting teams to get their thoughts on their Storage Field Day appearances and we compiled some of their answers into a video.
A big thank you to Hammerspace, Intel, NetApp, Pliops, MinIO, Tintri, and Nasuni for making the event such a success! Check out their thoughts on Storage Field Day on the YouTube video or take a look at the many great presentations on our website.

Storage Field Day 21 – (Fairly) Full Disclosure

Storage Field Day in January was a success on all fronts, and Dan Frith shared a bit about the side of the event not usually seen by anyone but the delegates and Tech Field Day staff. Head over to Dan’s Penguin Punk blog to see his “fairly full disclosure” about the goodies he received from the Storage Field Day sponsors and from us.

Object Storage Is Heating Up

Enrico Signoretti joined us as a delegate at Storage Field Day last month! He follows the event with his thoughts on object storage and its rise in popularity. Some reasons for this growing popularity include information such as the hybrid cloud, digital transformation, and the affordability of flash. Enrico points to MinIO’s presentation from Storage Field Day about Kubernetes and how it’s leading the way. He also points to another presentation from this event, where Nasuni presents its solution. To see what else Enrico had to say, check out this blog on gigaom.com!

Why MinIO Wins the Private Cloud

It was great to host MinIO at Storage Field Day last month! In the last of their blog posts on the event, MinIO makes their case on why they’re winning the Hybrid Cloud. If you want to learn more about MinIO, check out this great post, download their code and give a whirl, or check out their Storage Field Day presentation on our website!

Storage Field Day Session Four: The Hybrid Cloud and MinIO

On their blog, MinIO writes that they didn’t have quite enough time to share their full hybrid cloud vision at Storage Field Day in January. In a quick review of their fourth session, Jonathan Symonds at MinIO shares their goals on how they can “win the hybrid cloud” and be better than AWS outside of AWS. Be sure to check out the post or, as Jonathan suggests, download the MinIO code and take it for a spin!

The Rise of MinIO Object Storage

Ray Lucchesi saw MinIO present at Storage Field Day in January and thought they had a great session. In a post on his Ray on Storage blog, Ray details the advantages of the open source nature of their products as well as the MinIO Subscription Network “SubNet.” Check out his full post on his blog or watch the MinIO presentations on the Tech Field Day website!

Storage Field Day Session Three: Innovation at MinIO

We were excited to host MinIO at Storage Field Day in January! In the third installment on their blog, the MinIO team reviews their Innovation Showcase presentation where they highlight VMware Data Persistence as well as SUBNET. Head over to the MinIO blog to check out their showcase and some really great demos!

Looking Ahead With Storage Field Day 21 – Barry Coombs, Jason Collier, Max Mortillaro – Ep 149

The Tech Interviews podcast kicks off its first episode of 2021 by looking ahead at the storage industry. Paul Stringfellow was joined by Barry Coombs, Jason Collier, and Max Mortillaro to discuss what they saw at Storage Field Day earlier this year. The four were delegates at the event and discuss their key takeaways from the presentations. To see the full conversation, visit techstringy.wordpress.com!

Storage Field Day Session Two: Kubernetes and MinIO

During MinIO’s presentation at Storage Field Day in January, MinIO took the time to explain its connection with Kubernetes. MinIO is cloud-native, and its storage can be orchestrated natively with Kubernetes. It understands Kubernetes’ dominance, as mentioned in its blog, “Kubernetes is winning. That means object storage is winning. Block and File are legacy architectures on the cloud. Kubernetes is accelerating their demise.” To learn more about MinIO and Kubernetes, check out MinIO’s blog and presentation from Storage Field Day!

Storage Field Day Session One: All Things MinIO

MinIO presented at Storage Field Day in January about three main points: MinIO and Kubernetes, MinIO’s punishing pace of innovation, and MinIO and the Hybrid Cloud. MinIO states, “we love Storage Field Day because it is a chance for us to reflect on our accomplishments while forcing us to confront our future.” MinIO had the opportunity to bring attention to its growth story. This includes having 58% of the Fortune 500 running MinIO today, which is up from 50% last year. To learn more about MinIO, check out MinIO’s blog and its session at Storage Field Day!
