What Cisco is Researching, Developing, and Incubating in Quantum Networking

Cisco is making a major R&D investment in quantum networking, as future communication systems equipped with quantum networks will open new possibilities in several technology domains, including distributed quantum computing, secure communications, global clock synchronization, high-accuracy sensors, and more. To provide context, a brief introduction to quantum mechanics will be included, with a focus on quantum bits (Qubits) and some of their special properties, including superposition, entanglement, and no-cloning. This will be followed by an overview of quantum computing, to better understand the direct impact and demands this emerging field is having on network communications and security. Finally, we’ll bring it all together to highlight what Cisco is already researching, developing, and incubating in quantum technologies!
