Joe CaraDonna, VP, Storage Division Cloud CTO, and Geeta Vaghela, Director, Product Management, present Dell Technologies cloud storage vision. Data is driving connected devices, and Dell Technologies envisions a data-centric hybrid cloud use case, enabling applications and data to move from one environment to another. Dell Technologies will leverage the “Power” product portfolio to deliver a unified strategy across the storage division. Dell has modularized and containerized the Unity filesystem and are delivering this in PowerStore, PowerMax, and PowerFlex, adding the SyncIQ replication engine from OneFS, and adding DataIQ for data orchestration and CloudIQ for infrastructure management.

Joe CaraDonna, VP, Storage Division Cloud CTO, discusses the performance of Dell Technologies PowerScale cloud storage in Google Cloud. He then discusses a use case with Scratch DNA sequencing throughput, showing that customers can have the same level of latency and performance in the cloud as on-premises. Under the hood, PowerScale is the same enterprise-class scale-out high-performance storage but managed for a cloud user experience. It is integrated with the Google Cloud portal and billing system. CaraDonna demonstrates the solution in action, before returning to a discussion of the future of the platform. CaraDonna announces that PowerScale for Google Cloud will soon support S3 protocol in addition to NFS, SMB, and HDFS. He finishes this section by presenting a multi-cloud solution using PowerMax, PowerStore, or PowerScale to provide storage in VMware on AWS, Google Cloud, Amazon AWS, or Microsoft Azure.

Geeta Vaghela, Director, Product Management, discusses customer requirements for cloud storage. Dell Technologies customers are moving data off-premises for DR, archiving, or shifting primary locations but are also performing cloud compute for analytics on-demand. She presents the automated disaster recovery as a service using VMware Cloud on AWS with native replication of Dell EMC storage. Next, she discusses a genome sequencing application which leverages GPU instances in the cloud. Another use case is autonomous vehicle design, which includes both on-premises and cloud processing of data from the edge, the datacenter, and the cloud. Media and entertainment customers use PowerScale in Google Cloud for collaborative video editing using virtual workstations and elastic compute and storage. Joe CaraDonna, VP, Storage Division Cloud CTO, joins in the discussion with the Tech Field Day delegate panel.
