Veeam’s SaaS Pricing Estimator

Justin Warren writes about a unique aspect of Veeam’s latest Cloud Field day presentations. Justin, a delegate at the last Cloud Field Day, writes that the Veeam SaaS Pricing Estimator is helpful and convenient tool designed with the user in mind. By empowering their users with more information, Veeam is allowing them to be better prepared for the future. Check out the Veeam Cloud Field Day presentations on our website!

Cloud Field Day #8: Run SAP Workloads in the Cloud

We were pleased to host experienced presenter NetApp at our last Cloud Field Day! Dave Krenik writes about how NetApp was led by excellent presenters and was firing on all cylinders for this event. If you haven’t yet, be sure to check out the videos of their presentations from Cloud Field Day.

Is Endpoint Backup Still Relevant in the Cloud Era?

“Should we still care about endpoints?” — Veteran delegate Max Mortillaro asks critical questions about endpoint backups and their relevancy today. Max recently attended Cloud Field Day where he saw Veeam present on their endpoint backup product for Microsoft Office 365. Make sure you check out Max’s piece and the full Veeam presentation.

Day Two Cloud 059: Cloud Field Day Wrap-Up

In this episode of Day Two Cloud, Ethan Banks breaks down the second day of presentations from Cloud Field Day with delegates Ned Bellavance and Adam Fisher. This was a packed day of presentation, featuring technical deep dives from Veeam, Zerto, Diamanti, Morpheus Data, and Aruba Networks. They dig into the background on each company, what they showed off at the event, and how significant each presentation was from their IT lens.

Cloud Application Mobility – The Hard Way

Moving applications from on-premises to the cloud isn’t easy, but at this point the challenges around it are generally understood. But in this post, Keith Townsend looks at the less looked at reverse of that process, moving a cloud application to on-prem. He found that Veeam showed off a perfect solution for this recently at Cloud Field Day. Using their Veeam for AWS solution, Keith was able to pull down an EC2 backup instance image after about 8-hours of work installing the solutions, backing up, and restoring the image, ultimately getting the workload back on-prem. This isn’t end of the process for Keith, but he found Veeam uniquely offered the capability in the first place.

Can We Back Up a PB?

In this post, Ray Lucchesi considers the conundrum of backing up a petabyte, something that conventional IT would say isn’t feasible. This would require scanning the numerous file systems within that PB, daily scanning the hundred of TB changes, then transferring all of that to the backup storage. Instead, organizations rely on costly replication to protect against outages. At Cloud Field Day, Ray heard how Igenous is doing this scale of backup today, using a unique engine to scan and index PB scale data repositories, while still providing admins visibility into what is backed up. Be sure to check out Ray’s post and Igneous’ entire presentation on our YouTube channel.

What Is the Future for Storage Admins?

Storage has changed rapidly over the past decade, and the role of the storage admin has changed along with it. Gina Rosenthal considers what the future of the storage admin looks like in this piece, based on what she saw at Storage Field Day. It says a lot about the state of storage that many companies traditionally thought of as storage providers are now presenting at the event. She looks at NetApp’s approach with the Cloud Volumes Service, on-premises scale-out systems from Dell Technologies’ PowerScale solution, Igneous’ data management platform built on a scale-out file system, and Qumulo’s file data platform. Even as storage changes and goes to the cloud, Gina thinks the skills that storage admins have built up are more needed than ever.

CFD8 – Igneous Followup

Nate Avery previously previewed what to expect from Igneous’ Cloud Field Day presentation, looking back at a 2016 Tech Field Day presentation to see how their messaging has changed since coming out of stealth. After hearing the company present at the event, he looks at their DataProtect solution, which enables enterprises to backup on-premises file data to a given cloud service provider. This hits all the major notes a solution like this requires, with a novel indexing scheme, full and incremental backups, tiering, and compression. He found everything they showed to be fast and fluid, but he thinks they are better positioned as a hybrid cloud backup provider, focused on one-way movement of data from on-prem to the cloud.

Cloud Field Day 8 Day 3 Highlights

Lino Telera has done a great job writing up all the presentations he saw during Cloud Field Day. In this post, he focuses on Infrascale and Zerto. Both companies presented on the third day of the busy event. He looks at Infrascale’s novel approach to backup and recovery, which actively monitors backup data against radical modifications like a sudden change of content in order to detect and prevent ransomware. Zerto also impressed Lino, with their continual refinement of their platform, now supporting stateful Kubernetes applications.

Meet the #CFD8 Delegates: Andy Thurai

We always appreciate Aruba talking to our delegates for Field Day events, like they did for Andy Thurai. Andy’s attended Cloud Field Day, and heard all about Aruba’s latest with its Edge Services Platform. In this post, they talk about how the edge is changing applications, the value of AI in networking, and the changing challenges of the hybrid cloud. It’s a really great discussion, and a great setup to a lot of what Aruba presented at the event.

Cloud Field Day 8 Day 2 Highlights

Lino Telera wrote up his impressions on the second day of presentations at Cloud Field Day, which focused on Diamanti and Morpheus Data. Diamanti focused on version 3.0 of Spektra. This release introduced support for Hybrid-Cloud deployments, Multi-Tenancy, and Resiliency across multiple sites. Morpheus meanwhile showed off the latest update to their SaaS multi-cloud management platform, which Lino sees as well suited for MSPs thanks to the emphasis on automation.

Cloud Field Day Recap and Session Breakdown

Anthony Spiteri has presented with Veeam at Field Day events before, and was in front of the delegates again during Cloud Field Day. In this post, he’s summerizing what their team presented at the event, from Veeam Backup for AWS and Azure, to their hot new solution Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365, as well as their Veeam Cloud and Service Provider Program. It was a really focused and info-packed session, so be sure to check out their videos for all the details.

What Will HPE Do With Silver Peak? | Gestalt IT Rundown: July 15, 2020

In this episode of the Gestalt IT Rundown, Rich Stroffolino and Tom Hollingsworth breakdown the recent acquisition of Silver Peak by HPE. The SD-WAN company will be integrated into HPE’s Aruba business unit. Tom and Rich have seen Silver Peak at Networking and Cloud Field Day events in the past, and are well versed in their portfolio. They see the acquisition as a further bolstering of HPE’s ambitions with Aruba. We can’t wait to see the first fruits of this exciting acquisition.

Morpheus Data & NetApp – Cloud Field Day 8 | Watch Party

Cloud Field Day has always offered a live stream of presentations for anyone to watch and enjoy, but its not often we see watch parties organized around the presentations. That’s what Nick Howell did for the presentations from Morpheus Data and NetApp. It’s a really unique way to watch the presentation, with live commentary from Nick, as well as an integrated chat for replay.

CFD8 Preview – Igneous Systems

There were a lot of familiar names to Nate Avery in the list of presenters at Cloud Field Day. But Igneous was not one of them. He looked at their previous Tech Field Day presentation from 2016, and saw a company newly out of stealth showing off an interesting infrastructure-as-a-service offering. Looking at the company ahead of their presentation in 2020, he sees an exciting pivot with the company. Today they are less concerned with deploying boxes to an organization, and more being able to get metadata from files everywhere in the environment. We can’t wait to hear Nate’s takeaways from the presentation.

Cloud Field Day 8 Day 1 Highlights

Cloud Field Day offered a truly impressive number of presenting companies, and Lino Telera got to participate live, if virtually. In this post, he looks at the highlights from the first day of the event. This featured a presentation from Veeam, who recently got acquired by Insight Partners. They talked about their Cloud Native Backup solution, which can integrate with specific elements depending on a cloud provider. Then HPE’s Aruba Networks presented, show their Aruba Edge Services Platform and how it uses AIOps with ML models for telemetry and action purposes.

Veeam at Cloud Field Day 8 – Daily Check-In for July 15, 2020

Ned Bellavance has now attended his second virtual Field Day event, recently participating at Cloud Field Day. He was impressed how the Field Day team has kept iterating on the virtual event format to take advantage of not being limited by physical space, providing two different presentation tracks to let people watch presenters at a convenient time. In this video, he looks at what Veeam presented at the event. They showed off their latest tools specifically designed to help users backup and protect workloads and data in the cloud.

Preparing for Cloud Field Day 8

Lino Telera attended his fourth Field Day event during the virtual Cloud Field Day. In this post, he gives a preview of what he expected to see from each of the presenters. He was particularly interested to learn about Terraform Cloud from HashiCorp, and the application abstraction layer Spektra from Diamanti. Be sure to check out all his thoughts on the presenters before diving into the videos for yourself. We have an extensive archive of Field Day videos, stretching back years across all our events. Virtually Heading to Cloud Field Day 8

Veeam’s Anthony Spiteri joined us as a presenter for Cloud Field Day, our virtual event that brings together some of the most interesting cloud companies and most well respected independent voices for engaging in-depth technical presentations. Anthony and Veeam are no strangers to the Field Day experience, and we’re thrilled they’re continuing to join us as we’ve made the shift to virtual events. Their presentation featured a look at their Cloud Management Platform with a focus on protecting workloads that sit outside of more traditional on-premises infrastructure, as well as how Veeam enables Cloud and Service Providers to deliver services. It was a great presentation and we hope to see them back at an event soon.
