[Video] Gigamon Network Field Day 15 Preview

Keith Townsend gives a preview of one of the companies at this week’s Networking Field Day. Today, he gives a video review of what to expect from Gigamon at the event. He talks about the company’s established role in the networking visibility space, and expects to get into some deep technical discussions during the presentation.

IP Infusion: Network Field Day 15 Preview

Keith Townsend looks ahead to Networking Field Day next month, giving a look at IP Infusion. He’s excited to hear more from the company, mainly because he couldn’t find out a lot about them from his research. They offer a networking operating system solution, and Keith wants to know how they’ll differentiate themselves in the market. He can’t wait to hear more and get a technical deep dive.

Ah… NSX, We Meet Again.

Keith Townsend is heading to his first Networking Field Day next month, and he’s started to preview the presenting companies. First up is VMware with their NSX platform. Keith is familiar with it, but wants to hear more about NSX and micro-segmentation, specifically what VMware has learned from customers is how they go from the passive listening phase of looking at traffic to finally taking action against suspicious behavior. He’s also interested in seeing how serverless and NSX-T work together. He’ll get his fill at Networking Field Day, make sure to check out the live stream to watch along with Keith and the other delegates.

Barefoot Networks looks to redefine ASIC in network device design with its Tofino chip

Barefoot Networks gave details about their programmable Tofino chip for switches at Networking Field Day. Keith Townsend gave the presentation videos a look, and thinks they could have a big impact on the networking space. The immediate value is that the programmability should allow for new services to be integrated into switches on a much tighter release window. But more importantly, whitebox vendors could customize switches to individual clients, with hyperscale deployments like Facebook only need a very specific subset of functions to prioritize on performance. And unlike programmable x86 processors in switches, there’s no sacrifice in performance, with Barefoot claiming Tofino can manage 6.5 Tbps.
