SAP is pushing customers to migrate to its cloud ERP system, S/4HANA, by 2030, threatening to withhold support and innovation for those who don’t. The company’s Customer Data Center (CDC) deployment, a private cloud model, offers a compromise for those with regulatory concerns, but it still requires a costly and complex rebuild. Ultimately, SAP is executing a vendor lock-in strategy, forcing customers to choose between migration pain now or irrelevance later.
