Augtera Overview with Rahul Aggarwal

Augtera Networks Founder and CTO, Rahul Aggarwal, provides an overview of the transformation from humans mining data to machines mining data to create insights that are consumed by humans and automation tools. The building blocks of the Augtera platform are uncovering patterns and correlations at scale, data collection from any source, and specialized algorithms for networking. The benefits for network operations are noise reduction, the ability to be proactive and prevent incidents, end-to-end assurance, and the acceleration of devOps integration into NetOps.

Augtera Real-Time Syslog

An underinvested area by tools vendors is syslog. Specifically, use of syslog as a real-time data source for anomaly detection. Augtera has a rich syslog solution that includes real-time classifiers, easy/fast-add classifiers, and rate change anomalies. Recently, Augtera announced an industry first, real-time natural language processing (NLP) for syslog, based on Augtera’s own NLP algorithms. This capability allows Augtera to identify semantically new syslog messages in real-time, so they can be flagged to operations for inspection, and potential classification as anomalies. Operations teams can now sleep well knowing that new incident types will be detected and reported before they become persistent sources of failures and/or performance degradation.

Augtera Actionable Insights for Data Center and SD-WAN

Augtera detects TCP SACK options through sFlow which is an indication that an issue is emerging. Further inspection shows fabric interfaces are dropping packets, because of how traffic is being load balanced. Similarly, an underlay could be impacting a SD-WAN overlay. Instead of focusing on which servers are impacted, in this use case, the focus is the applications impacted.

Augtera Multi-Cloud Performance Insights

In December 2021 Augtera detected a major AWS outage long before Amazon publicly commented on it, though the Augtera Live Multi cloud Anomaly capability, which is provided on the Augtera website to everyone. In addition, while the Augtera team was presenting at NFD, a real-time GCP anomaly was being detected. The underlying tech for this capability is Augtera software probes deployed across the Internet, or a customer’s network. VPC flow logs can also be used to detect anomalies.

Jim Meehan, Head of Product, leads a discussion on capabilities being considered for the Augtera platform roadmap, including auto-remediation, deeper cloud metadata integration, pinpointing intermediate path latency issues, overlaying anomalies on GEO or path views in addition to topology, and SASE insights. The session concluded with feedback from delegates which included existing tool augmentation/substitution.
