Jerome Lecat, CEO of Scality, presented the company’s vision and innovations at Tech Field Day Extra during VMworld US 2016, illustrating how Scality facilitates businesses’ digital transformation through object-based storage solutions. He emphasized the significance of understanding technology within its broader context, rather than focusing solely on technical specifications. This context, according to Lecat, frames technology as a means to achieving business objectives rather than an end in itself. His address highlighted the complexities of integrating modern storage solutions with existing IT architectures and how Scality is positioned to address these needs through its software-centric approach.

Lecat discussed the ongoing digital revolution, citing the impact of technological advancements on various industries, including transportation and education. He noted that the digital landscape is evolving rapidly, altering job functions and the skills required in the workforce. The shift towards automation means that roles such as storage administration are also changing, with a growing reliance on software to manage data more efficiently. Lecat pointed out that the future of many jobs will hinge on creativity, problem-solving, and the ability to leverage technology effectively, while routine tasks could be automated. He emphasized the importance for enterprises to embrace this transformation, asserting that adaptability will become essential for survival and success.

In terms of Scality’s solutions, Lecat elaborated on the company’s object storage architecture, which is designed for reliability and scalability in supporting large data volumes. He noted the importance of integrating object and file storage, allowing users to interact seamlessly through both interfaces. Lecat underscored Scality’s collaboration with major industry players, highlighting partnerships that help the company deliver flexible and high-performance storage solutions. Scality’s commitment to innovation is evident in its dedication to meeting the diverse needs of clients, which range from public cloud providers to enterprise-level applications, ensuring a broad market impact while catering to the evolving demands of digital business.

Paul Speciale, VP of Product Management at Scality, presented the Scality S3 Connector for Enterprise during Tech Field Day Extra at VMworld US 2016. This innovative solution allows IT professionals to leverage Amazon S3 storage capabilities while effectively managing their on-premises storage needs. The presentation emphasized how Scality has listened to customer feedback to shape their roadmap, particularly in enhancing integration with legacy applications and delivering a modernized, agile framework compatible with enterprise environments.

During the presentation, Speciale detailed the architecture and feature set of the S3 Connector, highlighting its importance for organizations in sectors such as finance and healthcare. The connector is designed to streamline deployment through a container-based model, making it user-friendly while ensuring compliance with security requirements like Active Directory Federation. Speciale also discussed the multi-tenancy model which mirrors Amazon’s Identity and Access Management (IAM) structure, allowing enterprise clients to manage user access with granular control, thereby aligning with their existing security frameworks.

Furthermore, Speciale illustrated the technology underpinning the Scality S3 Connector, including its metadata service and scalable architecture, which ensures high availability and quick performance even with large datasets. He also showcased real-time reporting and monitoring capabilities, allowing organizations to leverage their preferred management tools to gain insights into usage patterns and system performance. Through effective demos and practical examples, Speciale demonstrated how the S3 Connector facilitates a smooth transition from small test environments to robust enterprise-scale deployments, ultimately aiming to empower enterprises with the versatility they require for modern storage solutions.
