Fortinet and Monitoring

Brian Gleason, a Field Day delegate, illustrates how to configure the FortiGate and FortiSwitch to allow for SNMP monitoring that was demonstrated by Fortinet at Networking Field Day in 2019. This article uses images for PathSolutions TotalView, but it seems it works for other SNMP-based monitoring platforms as well. Check out Brian’s thoughts here as he focuses on SNMP!

Mock the Network With Tesuto

In this post, Brian Gleason looks at the cloud-based network emulation service from Tesuto. He got a technical deep dive on the company at Networking Field Day. In this post, he shows how the service can let organizations show customers the benefits of product integration, and also gain confidence in production changes.

Code It, Don’t Snippet

As Cisco presses DevNet Ops for network engineers, they had courses for every ability at Cisco Live in San Diego. Brian Gleason looked at a session covering the fundamental tools of coding with REST APIs. Be sure to check out the rest of the video presentations from Tech Field Day Extra at Cisco Live US 2019 for more great content.

Viavi Enterprises, Performance Vision

Brian Gleason attended Tech Field Day Extra at Cisco Live US 2019. Cisco Live is always a packed event, but we love the opportunity to provide focused technical presentations and create conversations in all the typical event cacophany. This year, Viavi was a presenter, and demonstrated how they track client-server transactions on the network to monitor end-user experience via passive data collection. According to Brian, it was one of the best presentations of the event.

Intel Data-Centric Innovation Day 2019

Brian Gleason joined us for the Tech Field Day Exclusive at Intel’s Data Centric Innovation Day. It was a packed day of announcements for the company. Brian highlights Optane DC Persistent Memory and the new 800-series 100GbE cards as standouts. For him, IT that goes unnoticed is generally the one that works best. Intel’s announcements shows a lot of things that will let him stay in the shadows.

Meet Field Day Delegate – Brian Gleason

We’re thrilled to have Brian Gleason joining us for Tech Field Day Exclusive at Intel Data-Centric Innovation Day. Before watching what Intel is presenting, be sure to get to know all the new faces around the table. Gestalt IT has been interviewing all our new delegates for the event, and Brian is no exception. Be sure to check out his interview to get some background, where he sees IT going in the near term, and what he does when he’s not working in IT.

Off the Cuff – NFD20 Wrap Up

From a rainy recording in Silicon Valley, Jordan Martin gathered together some fellow delegates from Networking Field Day to discuss what they heard at the event. They run down each presenter and discuss what stood out and struck their interest. Guests include Mario Gingras, Nick Shoemaker, Richard McIntosh, Brian Gleason, and Drew Conry-Murray.

Juniper Buries the Headline at NFD20

Brian Gleason thought Juniper Networks had one of the best presentations at Networking Field Day last month. Instead of focusing on routing and switching, the company took the time to highlight their free educational tools. NRE Labs particularly impressed Brian. Instead of being a lead-gen bait and switch, NRE Labs is a GitHub-hosted set of learning resources for network engineers not yet comfortable with automation and programming. It has lessons for beginners, but is also designed to help move beyond the basics. It’s a refreshingly helpful set of resources from Juniper.

Fortinet SD-WAN at Network Field Day 20

Brian Gleason got to hear from Fortinet at Networking Field Day earlier this month. The timing couldn’t be better, as the company has achieved a bit of prominence due to the recent rash of massive security breaches. For Brian, solutions like Fortinet FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer are critical for the complext task of monitoring and acting on attack signatures. In this post, he looks at the company’s overall architecture and digs into the technical details of how they provide solutions across SD-WAN, security, endpoint protection, WiFi, and switching.

PathSolutions Presents

Brian Gleason was a delegate at our recent Networking Field Day event. He and the other delegates got to hear from PathSolutions among the many presentations. Despite having a UI that could charitably called functional, Brian was impressed by what he saw from their TotalView monitoring solution. This looks at all interfaces on a network device and polls 19 interface counters to give a complete picture of health, and presents it in a logical layout.
