Cloud Field Day 2 – A lesson learned

Last summer, Lino Telera attended his first Cloud Field Day. While the presenting companies showed off a vast array of products, platforms and solutions, for Lino the overall theme came down to being more dynamic with data across the cloud. He gives his impressions of all the presenters, from HPE’s Nimble Cloud Volumes to Nirmata’s SaaS solution to close the gap between developers and sysadmin.

HPE – InfoSight and Cloud Volumes

At Cloud Field Day last year, Mariusz Kaczorek heard from HPE about InfoSight and Cloud Volumes. Both show the integration of the company’s recent acquisition of Nimble Storage. For Mariusz, the advances he saw with InfoSight are a clear signal that the autonomous data center is well on its way.

Highlights from HPEDiscover 2017 Madrid

Lino Telera was at HPE Discover 2017 and share some of his thoughts. He saw their latest solutions around IoT, edge computing, and storage (from their recent Nimble Storage acquisition).

Cloud Field Day2: Hacking the Cloud with HPE Nimble Cloud Volumes

Lino Telera got a look at what HPE is doing post-acquisition with Nimble Storage at Cloud Field Day earlier this year. From this, Lino looks at HPE Nimble Cloud Volumes, which provides the ability to “share” storage resources across cloud providers. He saw this as an important piece for any organization looking to embrace a hybrid cloud deployment.

HPE Brings Nimble Skynet to 3PAR Arrays

Chris Evans considers how HPE will integrate Nimble Storage’s InfoSight into its 3PAR lineup after the former company’s acquisition. The challenge he sees is that Nimble Storage had a vast catalog of data points to pull from, having collected 4000 different metrics every five minutes from their arrays since 2010. If 3PAR doesn’t have that deep bench of data to pull from, it may take a while for InfoSight to derive valuable insights.

HPE Nimble Storage at Cloud Field Day – Enterprise Storage

HPE presented on their recently acquired Nimble Storage portfolio at Cloud Field Day. Theresa Miller like what she saw from their cloud-based SAN-like option for cloud storage. Fundamentally, she’s not sure this will be an option for many companies just starting their cloud journey, but rather thinks it has a ready market with many of the existing big cloud companies.

Cloud Field Day 2: Event Summary

Bryan Krausen recaps Cloud Field Day, giving a quick review of each company’s presentation and relaying his thoughts on the event as a whole. He enjoyed most of the presentations, but found that each of the three days of the event had a different theme, from startups to industry giants. Bryan is thankful to have had the opportunity to attend Cloud Field Day and looks forward to more Field Day events in the future.

Understanding HPE Nimble Storage’s Cloud Volumes

Ethan Banks writes about HPE Nimble Storage’s Cloud Volumes, which they presented about at Cloud Field Day. Cloud Volumes are a cloud storage product focused on helping enterprises move their business applications to the cloud. Ethan sees the idea behind Cloud Volumes, but worries that it is a short-term product filling a gap that enterprises will eventually be able to bridge themselves, and therefore will not be particularly profitable for HPE.

HPE Built Another Cloud – Storage This Time

Eric Shanks gives the pros and cons of HPE’s Nimble Cloud Volumes presented at Cloud Field Day. He is optimistic that this will be familiar to many data center administrators, but worried about the lack of APIs and availability given there are only two Nimble Cloud Volumes data centers. Either way, Eric is interested that HPE has taken this approach and expects them to do well with this product in the short run.

Cloud Field Day 2 Preview: HPE Nimble Storage

As Cloud Field Day approaches, Julian Wood talks HPE Nimble Storage. He is especially interested on what Nimble Storage has been up to since their acquisition and how it relates to cloud.

Cloud Field Day 2: Preparing to rock!

Preparing for Cloud Field Day, Lino Telera outlines what he’s looking forward to at the event. He focuses on HPE Nimble Storage’s multicloud storage, ServiceNow’s approach to providing tools for compliance during task execution without impacts, and Gigamon’s network monitoring tactics.

Nimble, HPE and 20-Year Old Architectures

Chris Evans looks at the recently announced HPE acquisition plans for Nimble Storage. He looks at both companies positions in the storage market, and the challenges and opportunities the acquisition will enable. For Chris, the key to the overall storage market is to increase customer share on relatively thin margins. If nothing else, Chris sees Nimble Storage as a way for HPE to gracefully retire 3PAR and provide a competitive offering in the space.

HPE is buying Nimble Storage

Andrea Mauro wrote up a reaction to the announced plans for HPE to acquire Nimble Storage. Andrea thinks HPE already had a solid storage portfolio, so he found it very surprising. Ultimately he thinks the key to this acquisition might be Nimble’s non-storage products. This includes InfoSight and their Nimble Cloud Volumes. For Andrea, these seem to offer something that HPE currently doesn’t have in their portfolio.
