Recent consolidation among wireless companies can leave some people wondering how to stay on top of important news. Drew Lentz put together a list of industry events to help his fellow Mobility Field Day fans stay on top of the industry.

Jake Snyder shares a post about the difficulty of being a blogger while working in enterprise IT.

Surprise! Facebook Shares Dramatically Improve Reach, Clicks, and Views

Stephen Foskett discusses the hard numbers of Facebook shares and how they affect viewership. Using 29 full Tech Field Day presentations with varying number of shares, he proves that there is a direct correlation between shares and people reached and views concluding that “a single share will likely double the views for a Live video post.”

Advice to Vendors: Know Your Identity

Technology is easy, identity is hard. That’s what I got after reading this piece by Matt Crape, and I completely agree. Most companies are iterating in their respective markets. There’s nothing wrong with that, as refinement is essential to business consistency. But when a market gets crowded, it’s important for a company to know what they specifically want to do, and how their identity can lead to differentiation. This is especially important when presenting to people that know the industry and technology well, such as our Tech Field Day delegates!

Tech Field Day From Both Sides of the Table

Drew Lentz has been to his fair share of Tech Field Day events, most recently Networking Field Day this past April. But now, he’s crossing back over to the company side with Cape Networks. He wrote up great piece on his perspective on both sides of the table and the unique benefits of Tech Field Day events to both companies and delegates. We’re wishing Drew all the best with Cape Networks!

Datanauts 077: Transitioning To A Less Technical Role

On the latest episode of Datanauts, Tom Hollingsworth joins hosts Drew Conry-Murray and Ethan Banks to discuss the topic of transitioning to less technical roles as you advance in your IT career.

Tech Field Day 13 – personal experience, photos and many links

Andreas Lesslhumer recounts his experience at Tech Field Day last week in Austin. Overall, he found the time seemed to fly, filled with thoughtful conversations, networking with peers, and delicious Texas brisket. Plus, he got to checkoff an item from his bucket list: the delegates were driven around town in a stretch Hummer! He really enjoyed that most of the companies had trials or sandboxed versions of their solutions ready to start testing during their presentations. Overall it sounds like he had a great time in Austin. It was a pleasure to have him there too!

How Tech Field Day influenced me in 2016

Max Mortillaro reflects back on what he’s learned from Tech Field Day events in 2016. It was a really eventful year for him, and he found a lot of value both personally and professionally with the events. Overall, he loves the emersion the event allows. They provide in-depth technical discussions with likeminded colleagues. It’s a community of enterprise IT goodness, and it was a pleasure to have Max at the events.

Here’s to 2016 (A year in the life…)

Jon Hildebrand shares his reflections on 2016. For him, it was a year of growth. He shares his thoughts on how 2015 ended on a bit of a downer, feeling a little bit reticent to contribute in discussions at Virtualization Field Day. For 2016, he decided to make some changes. He set about making friends through VMUGs and getting involved in the community, including speaking at two UserCons. Gaining confidence with this engagement, Jon had a much more productive time, attending three total Tech Field Day events in the coming year. It was great to see Jon at events during the year, and we’re glad to help make 2016 a year of growth for him!

2016 – How did I do?

It’s one thing to make New Year’s Resolutions, it’s another thing to follow up on them the next year. Matt Crape looks back at 2016 to see how he did with his resolutions from last year. Overall, he accomplished one of the three goals he set out for himself. But for that goal of better community involvement, Matt really knocked it out of the park! He earned a VMCE certification, presented at a vBrownBag Tech Talk, hosted a Veeam user group, and attended Tech Field Day in November! For 2017, Matt wants to stay involved with the vCommunity. If that’s his only resolution for the New Year, it looks like Matt has a good chance of going one for one in 2017.

Unwitting Accomplices in Your Career

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Eric Shanks takes a look back at the places and people that led him to presenting at VMUG, blogging about Enterprise IT, and being a delegate for Tech Field Day. We’re always thankful a thoughtful piece from Eric!

The struggles of travelling

In this piece, Matt Crape reflects thoughtfully on what it means to travel for events, how it impacts family and work-life balance. How do you measure the value of traveling to the event, and what you lose by being away from home and family? Matt does a really good job of keeping this all in perspective, laying out both the pitfalls and the benefits. We’re very grateful for his time, and thrilled that Tech Field Day was a worthwhile event!
