Chris Evans was surprised to learn that NetApp had acquired Plexistor, a company he had first seen at Storage Field Day in 2016. He thinks NetApp got a bargain in the acquisition, getting a storage class memory solution in their Plexistor SCM. Chris gives a quick overview how this could fit into NetApp’s portfolio.
Actifio, the Swiss Army knife of data
Raff Poltronieri last heard from Actifio last year at Tech Field Day in Boston. Next week he’ll have a chance to get caught up with them in Silicon Valley. Raff found it extremely versatile when he first saw it last year, and this time around, he’s looking forward to a deeper look at their Enterprise Data-as-a-Service platform. He’s also interested in some use case applications, particularly disaster recovery.
Protection and instant access of Microsoft SQL database – DevOps with Actifio
Tech Field Day presentations are always informative, but it’s always great when a presentation directly helps someone solve a problem. Mariusz Kaczorek remembered a presentation from Actifio at last June’s Tech Field Day event. In this post, he took what he saw from Actifio to solve an access issue with Microsoft SQL Server backups.
Vendor Briefing: Comtrade backup for Nutanix, HYCU

Here’s to 2016 (A year in the life…)
Jon Hildebrand shares his reflections on 2016. For him, it was a year of growth. He shares his thoughts on how 2015 ended on a bit of a downer, feeling a little bit reticent to contribute in discussions at Virtualization Field Day. For 2016, he decided to make some changes. He set about making friends through VMUGs and getting involved in the community, including speaking at two UserCons. Gaining confidence with this engagement, Jon had a much more productive time, attending three total Tech Field Day events in the coming year. It was great to see Jon at events during the year, and we’re glad to help make 2016 a year of growth for him!

Nutanix and Plexxi – An Affinity to Converge
Tom Hollingsworth makes the case for why Nutanix should acquire Plexxi. He argues that Nutanix is less concerned about underlying networks, their play is making sure their overlay protocols can just work on top of it. Plexxi Affinities naturally compliment hyperconverged solutions, effectively building fast pathways and interconnects between endpoints where applications need to talk to one another. Tom thinks this would give Nutanix a killer offering in the crowded SDN space.
