Step by Step – Install Veeam Availability Orchestrator

Karel Novak wrote up a step-by-step guide on how to get up and running with Veeam’s Availability Orchestrator. The original post is in Czech, but there’s an English translation available here: https://goo.gl/TQpjtP

Half 2017 in community with VMTN, VMworld 2017 and TechFieldDay

Lino Telera joined us as a delegate at Tech Field Day Extra at VMworld 2016. He’s been keeping up to date with our past events, and wrote up some thoughts on the past two Tech Field Day events. Lino also gives a preview of VMworld 2017. He’ll be in attendance, and see the show moving to embrace greater industry trends of Big Data and IoT.

Veeam Goes Hollywood, Now Has Two Agents

Veeam recently released new backup agents for both Windows and Linux. Rich Stroffolino gives them both a quick overview. He focuses on features, UI, and where they fall in Veeam’s much larger backup and recovery portfolio.

Touching the physical world: Veeam Agents for Windows & Linux

Andreas Lesslhumer looks at Veeam’s efforts to become as renown in the physical server space as they are in the virtual one. With the Veeam Agent products for Windows and Linux, Andreas sees them making significant strides. The Windows Agent allows users to restore backups directly to Hyper-V or Azure, has source-side encryption, and full support for Windows Server 2016. Andreas gave it a spin, and so far it’s proven easy to install and as capable as you’d expect from Veeam.

Backups are Important, Recovery is Essential

Thom Greene has long been impressed with Veeam for virtualization backup. Now the company has offerings for bare metal machines. Veeam Agent for Linux and Veeam Agent for Windows bring a lot of the features of their virtualization backup and recovery to this market gap. The feature Thom thought really stood out was their support for road warrior laptops, called “endpoint protection for mobile users”. If your laptop is not connected to your network drive during your scheduled backup, this feature will quietly sync changes as soon as it becomes available. As you would expect from Veeam, the Agents are extremely capable, and easy to setup.

TFD13 Recap – New Veeam Agents and VeeamON

We were thrilled to have Rebecca Fitzhugh for her first Tech Field Day earlier this month. In her first post after the event, Rebecca takes a look at what Veeam presented. They debuted their recovery agents for Windows and Linux, and she came away impressed. These allow for quick recovery on either a volume or file level, with support for recovery to Hyper-V on the Windows variant. Best of all, they’re available to test out for free!

Time to Geek Out – Tech Field Day Veeam Style

Clint Wyckoff wrote up a post in his anticipation of his presentation with Veeam at Tech Field Day last week. Make sure you check out the full video coverage of their presentation, including their demo of various Veeam Agents for backup and recovery, as well as the Veeam Availability Platform!

Tech Field Day 13 Preview: Veeam

Thom Greene continues his excellent previews of Tech Field Day companies he’ll see in Austin. From Veeam, he’s looking forward to learning more about their backup solution for Office 365. This alleviates a lot of the time and worry administrators have to do to make sure documents and emails don’t get deleted over time, especially important for litigation holds. Thom’s used Veeam in the past, and found that it “just works”. At Tech Field Day, he’ll get a look under the hood to some of their engineering that makes it so reliable.

Back to Tech Field Day

Andrea Mauro is heading to Tech Field Day in Austin, coming up February 1st. He give a little context for his own involvements with past events, including some Virtualization Field Days and Tech Field Day Extras, but this is his first full Tech Field Day. He gives a rundown of his impressions of the presenting companies, but overall is excited to meet with other delegates, and to get into the technical deep dives. We’re excited to have Andrea coming to Austin, and can’t wait to hear his impressions of the presentations!
