Seven Clever Presentation Ideas From Tech Field Day
Tech Field Day is an unconventional event to be sure, and the delegates reward companies that go the extra mile. For our recent Boston event, we were pleased with the clever ideas the presenting sponsors came up with. I’m sure you’ll agree that they helped show the uniqueness of our sponsors!
Meet Field Day Delegate – Glenda Canfield
For Tech Field Day events, we pride ourselves on trying to include new voices into our delegate pool. This is vital to not only bring in the latest technical expertise to ask incisive questions of our presenting companies, but also to provide new perspectives around the delegate table, virtual or otherwise. Our latest Tech Field Day event saw Glenda Canfield join us for the first time. Be sure to check out her recent interview with Gestalt IT. They dig into how she got her start in IT, what she does in her spare time, and what she’d be working on if she wasn’t in IT. We can’t wait to hear from Glenda at more events in the future.
Network Field Day 14 and the Best Community Ever!
We’re thrilled to have Eyvonne Sharp as a delegate for her first Networking Field Day! She really appreciates the community the events have created. It’s great to hear that it’s not only a helpful group of people, but one that she genuinely enjoys engaging with. It’s also a welcoming group, so when you’re watching the Networking Field Day livestream, make sure to ask questions on Twitter with #NFD14. Between the delegates and the staff, we’ll get some answers!
Delegate For Storage Field Day 13
Brandon Graves is heading to his first Storage Field Day and is looking forward to the experience. Make sure to mark your calendar for June 14-16, and watch along on our live stream to see the presentations. And send in questions on Twitter using #SFD13 to get involved with the discussion!
Cloud Field Day – Datrium
Ned Bellavance is nothing if not diligent, doing research on the presenting companies before heading out to Silicon Valley. In this post, he’s giving Datrium a closer look. He looks at the companies major products including On-Prem DVX, Cloud DVX, and CloudShift. The latter really piqued his interest with it’s DR as a Service approach. He’s got questions about cloud exclusivity, recovery outside of VMC, and container workloads that he’s looking foward to asking at the event.
Cohesity – Harnessing the Power of Data
Ather Beg was able to have his cake and eat it too at Cloud Field Day. The cake came courtesy of Cohesity, but luckily it wasn’t even close to the best part of their presentation. In this post, he outlines the features, benefits and questions he has about the Cohesity DataPlatform, which was presented extensively at the event.
California here I Come – Cloud Field Day
We’re excited to have Michelle Laverick coming out to Silicon Valley for Cloud Field Day next week. She’ll be seeing a wide range of companies in the cloud infrastructure market, including two “secret companies”! It’ll be a week full of presentations and insightful questions. Be sure to watch along on our livestream, as well as joining the conversation on Twitter using #CFD3.
Storage Field Day 19 RoundUp
Storage Field Day is our first event of 2020, and we’ve got a packed roster of companies to present. It’s exciting to have a mix of familiar faces like NetApp and Dell EMC presenting with companies new to the event like Tiger Technology and Minio. Enrico Signoretti will be around the delegate table, asking questions and creating dialogue to help make Storage Field the unique event that it is. If that isn’t enough to get you excited, there is the always provocative “secret company” presenting at the event. Be sure to mark your calendar and unravel the mystery with us on the live stream.
Storage Field Day – I’ll Be At Storage Field Day 13 and Pure Accelerate
Dan Frith will be joining the other luminary delegates at Storage Field Day later this month. It’ll be a pleasure to have Dan joining us in Denver. Make sure to follow all the presentations on the live stream, and send in questions over Twitter using #SFD13!
Storage Field Day 13 (SFD13) – Preview
Alex Galbraith is heading to Storage Field Day in Denver, and has a preview post about the event. He’s excited to meet with all of the presenting companies, and get into the substantive technical discussions typical of the event. Remember, watch along on the live stream, and send in any questions on Twitter with #SFD13.
CBRS, Accessing Layer 2 Behind a CPE
Mark Houtz attended October’s Mobility Field Day as a delegate and is now reflecting on Arista’s presentation. Before their presentation, Mark had questions on their VXLAN, a standard base for tunneling their Aps and Switches for Segmentation and was pleasantly surprised with that they had to show for during the presentation. Check out his thoughts here!
HyperConverged for Containers? Cool Concept!
While at Cisco Live US 2019, Matt Leib attended a few Tech Field Day Extra presentations. One was from Cisco, where they highlighted HyperFlex product using Kubernetes and the Anthos management platform. For Matt, the dream of true multi-cloud, with the ability to move actual containers from location to location, requires a proper management layer. This is what Anthos offers to users. He still has some questions about the approach, but HCI for containers certainly has a nice ring to it.
Contemplating Mist Systems and Mobility Field Day 3
Ahead of heading out west to Mobility Field Day in September, Lee Badman is considering the latest updates from Mist Systems. With Artificial Intelligence being one of the signature buzzwords of 2018, Lee is curious how exactly Mist will demonstrate a meaningful implementation. He’s intrigued to learn more, but he’ll definitely have a lot of questions for their presentation.
A VMware guy’s perspective on containers
Like a lot of people, Mike Preston knows that containers are big in enterprise IT right now. But like me, he’s still a little fuzzy on the details. Luckily, Mike was at Tech Field Day this month to see Docker present their latest and greatest on containers, and cleared up a lot of misconceptions. He found a lot to like about containers, including some useful applications for an operations guy like him! Also, he was impressed that containers are no longer a Linux thing, Microsoft now supports Docker right out of the box with Windows Server 2016. Mike brings a really fresh perspective to containers as he’s learning more about them, and it seems like Docker answered a lot of his questions.
What’s The Deal With Containers, Anyway?
In this keynote from Deltaware Data Solutions’ 2016 Emerging Technology Summit, Stephen Foskett gives essential background on the emerging trend of containerization of enterprise applications. What are containers and how will they affect enterprise IT? Why is Docker so important? Foskett addresses both the technical and architectural questions, discussing which applications will be containerized, the benefits and costs, and what it means for IT operations.
On-prem Cloud Storage with Igneous Systems
On-prem cloud storage? Sounds like a contradiction in terms. But much like jumbo shrimp, Igneous Systems makes it work. They presented at this months Tech Field Day, and Matt Crape was intrigued by what he saw. Igneous is offering an end-to-end solution with their storage array. Matt liked how Igneous rethought their solution from ground zero. Effectively, previous storage arrays are dependent on a few SAS cards, which provides a big bottleneck if and when those cards go down. Igneous calls their architecture RatioPerfect, they effectively put an ARM interposer on each drive, taking the fault domain from a slew of drives to just one. Matt still has some questions about practical implementations of their solution, but on an architectural level, it’s clear Igneous did their homework.
Proving It’s Not the Network: Catchpoint and Kentik
In his most recent post, Eric Stewart, Field Day delegate, discusses Kentik’s and Catchpoint’s presentations at September’s Networking Field Day. These companies have a similar end to end focus for their solutions, providing data regarding web page loading and why delays are occurring. Eric talks about his thoughts on either solution and gives some brief feedback on questions he would have for the future. Check out his thoughts!
Cisco HyperFlex 2019 Edition: Mixed Feelings
Max Mortillaro attended his fourth Cisco Live Europe this year, and also got to hear presentation at Tech Field Day Extra at the event. All that time has proven Cisco’s commitment to HyperFlex, which received important updates at the event, including improvements from a security and usability perspective, certification of SAP HANA, one-click upgrades, NVMe and more. Max remains convinced that Cisco has a compelling story around HCI, but he still has some questions about the overall strategy.

We’ll see Wolfgang Stief as a delegate at this week’s Storage Field Day! In this piece on the German Data://Disrupted blog, Wolfgang gives an overview of the presenting companies he’ll be hearing from. He also encourages viewers to ask questions using #SFD22 and one of the delegates will ask and report back. Be sure to follow Wolfgang on Twitter at @SpeicherStief for all of his thoughts during the event!
