In Enterprise IT, we often see technology vendors begin life with a singular purpose. They see a problem, create a solution, and do one thing really well. As the product matures and the company is focused on growth, additional products and features are added. Some of them are good and some of them…not so good. Rarely do we see a technology company iterate off their initial product and continue to excel with new products and features. Ken Nalbone explains how NGINX broke this pattern, based on their presentation at Cloud Field Day.
NGINX Post F5 Acquisition
Nathaniel Avery got to hear from NGINX at Cloud Field Day earlier this month. This was made an even more interesting presentation in light of the company’s recent acquisition by F5 Networks. For now, it appears that NGINX is operating business as usual, and isn’t changing the company’s model of building a commercial product on top of their open source web server. Nathaniel was pleased to see that the acquisition has not made the NGINX GitHub page any less lively.
NGINX on a Floppy
The humble floppy disk hasn’t been relevant for a few decades, but that didn’t stop NGINX from grabbing some dongles and showing off what they can do with 1.4MB of storage. They were able to run a web server, reverse proxy, load balancer, and content cache off the disk. Heading to Cloud Field Day 5
Chris Porter is at Cloud Field Day this week, a return appearance after being on hand for the event last year. He’s looking forward to hearing what all the presenters have in store, particularly Sysdig and Nginx given his background with containers. Rubrik will be a returning presenter for Chris. He also highlights what he’s interested in from Pure Storage, VMware and Veeam. The Cloud Field Day informational firehose can be intense, but it looks like Chris is up to the challenge again.

Ned Bellavance will grace Cloud Field Day with a return appearance this year. Ahead of the event, Ned is previewing what to expect from some of the companies, focusing on NGINX in this post. Aside from technical questions about their product portfolio, Ned is definitely interested to hear how the company will work as it is acquired by F5 Networks.
