Greg Ross, Senior Systems Engineer at Paessler, goes over the architectural underpinning of PRTG. This includes a built in web server and NoSQL database, and is setup for monitoring within minutes. For distributed networks, PRTG allows for deploying remote probe polling agents. These polling agents tap into various protocols as needed for devices and applications across the infrastructure. PRTG uses the idea of sensors to monitor infrastructure, which are disparate metrics that when pooled for 20-40 sensors, give a full picture of the state.
