The Network Is Code: Cisco at MFD4
Cisco’s presentation at Mobility Field Day was as dense with information as Lee Badman has come to expect. But what really struct him was Cisco’s focus on “the network is code.” For Lee, this needs to imply reliable code for it to be meaningful. He appreciates that the IOS-XE code base is a long way away from Cisco’s previous wireless efforts, and he’s anxious to see continued improvements from the company.
StorPool’s Strategy Rose to the Cloud—and Beyond!
Before buzzwords like “cloud” and “software-defined storage” (SDS) became part of our everyday vocabulary, software developers like Boyan Ivanov, Chief Executive and Co-Founder of StorPool Storage, already were hard at work devising ways to build extremely fast, reliable, and scalable storage solutions for public and private use cases. While the solution may not have had a fancy moniker, Stephen Foskett looks at what StorPool presented at Storage Field Day and how it aims to re-energize block storage, combining high-end storage area network (SAN) technology through software and the performance of local solid-state drive (SSD) storage.
Solidigm and Why Storage Is Critical to the Success of AI
At AI Field Day, experts from Solidigm and Supermicro illuminated the critical role of high-performance storage in ensuring the success of Generative AI, which demands instant, uninterrupted access to massive datasets. Efficient storage solutions are paramount to prevent downtime, which can lead to significant loss in both productivity and financial terms. Their discussion underlined the importance of structuring and cataloging data for future use, emphasizing that optimized storage systems with high IOPS (Input/Output Operations Per Second) are essential for Generative AI’s accelerating growth and the reliable generation of actionable insights.
